HOW TO TAKE YOUR OWN CASTING PHOTOS

Your look. Your personality. Just you.

Your photos are one of the first things we see when reviewing your profile.

They help us understand your appearance, facial features and personality, so we can consider you for suitable casting opportunities.

You don`t need a professional photographer, expensive equipment or a studio. A smartphone and good natural light are enough.

Follow these simple steps to take clear, natural photos that show the real you.

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

1. Find the right spot

Choose a place with a simple, clean background.

A plain white, grey or neutral-coloured wall is ideal.

Avoid busy backgrounds, mirrors, strong patterns and anything that takes attention away from you.

Make sure there is enough space for both portrait and full-body photos.

2. Get the lighting right

Natural daylight is usually the best choice.

Stand facing a window or another soft light source. Make sure your face is evenly lit, without strong shadows.

Avoid:

  1. Direct sunlight that creates harsh shadows.
  2. Strong light behind you.
  3. Dark rooms or yellow artificial lighting.
  4. Camera flash, if possible.

Good lighting helps us see your natural features clearly.

3. Position your camera

Use your smartphone`s rear camera if possible, as it often provides better image quality.

Ask someone to take your photos or place your phone on a stable surface and use the timer.

For your portrait photos:

  1. Keep the camera at eye level, facing you directly.
  2. Stand at a comfortable distance to avoid changing the appearance of your facial features.
  3. Use the normal camera setting (1x), not the ultra-wide lens (0.5x).
  4. Take your photos vertically (Portrait).
  5. Make sure your face is sharp and clearly visible.

For your full-body photo, move the camera farther away and keep it approximately at waist level, without tilting it sharply up or down.

Avoid taking photos with the phone too close to your face.

4. Keep your appearance natural

We want to see how you really look.

  1. Wear simple clothes in solid or neutral colours.
  2. Avoid large logos, busy patterns and distracting accessories.
  3. Keep makeup light and natural, or wear no makeup.
  4. Keep your hair natural and away from your face.
  5. Remove sunglasses, hats and anything that hides your features.
  6. Avoid beauty filters, skin smoothing, retouching and AI enhancements.

If you have facial hair, keep it as you normally wear it.

Your natural appearance is what matters most.

5. Take your casting photos

Please take the following photos using a clean background and good lighting.

Photo 1 — Front portrait (Neutral expression)

Look directly at the camera with a relaxed, neutral expression.

Frame yourself from the chest up, leaving a little space above your head.

Keep your shoulders relaxed and your face clearly visible.

Photo 2 — Front portrait (Natural smile)

Use the same framing, but this time give us a natural smile.

Avoid exaggerated expressions or forced poses.

Photo 3 — Left profile

Turn your head 90° to your left so we can clearly see your facial profile.

Keep your head straight and your hair away from your face.

Photo 4 — Right profile

Repeat the same shot, turning your head 90° to your right.

Make sure your nose, chin and jawline are clearly visible.

Photo 5 — Full-body photo

Stand naturally, facing the camera, with your entire body visible from head to toe.

Wear simple, well-fitting clothes and keep your arms relaxed by your sides.

Make sure your head and feet are fully visible, with a little space around your body.

Photo 6 — Three-quarter view (Optional)

Turn your head slightly, around 45°, towards the camera.

Keep your expression relaxed and natural.

This angle helps us see the shape and structure of your face.

The first five photos are essential. The three-quarter view is optional.

6. Keep it simple

Your casting photos are not fashion photos or social media selfies.

There is no need for professional poses, dramatic expressions or creative camera angles.

Avoid:

  1. Exaggerated facial expressions.
  2. Extreme close-ups or wide-angle distortion.
  3. Heavy makeup or strong photo effects.
  4. Group photos or photos with other people.
  5. Cropped faces, heads or feet.
  6. Old photos that no longer represent your current appearance.

We want to see you, not a filtered or edited version of you.

7. Check before you upload

Before sending your photos, make sure:

  1. Your face is clearly visible and in focus.
  2. Your photos have good, natural lighting.
  3. You have included a neutral front portrait and a smiling portrait.
  4. Both facial profiles are clearly visible.
  5. Your full-body photo shows you from head to toe.
  6. Your photos show your current appearance.
  7. You have not used beauty filters, retouching or AI enhancements.
  8. You are the only person in the photos.

Upload your photos in good quality, preferably as JPG or PNG files.

Keep your profile up to date.

Please update your photos whenever your appearance changes significantly, such as a new haircut, hair colour, facial hair or other visible changes.

This helps us present your current look accurately to casting directors and productions.
